Thadd is currently writing 'The Last Horseman' as an historic fiction novel which should be completed before summer. His second non-fiction book, FRONTIER SCOUTS, is also underway, and a fourth book, LOST HORSE, is scheduled to start later this year. Look for 'Miracle at Sage Creek' and 'Deadwood' to be adapted to book form sometime next year.

The February 2003 issue of Wild West Magazine carried a feature story about Wild Bill and Deadwood written by Thadd, and another Hickok story written by author Joseph G. Rosa. This is the third publication in the past 18 months that Thadd and Joe have provided feature stories together in the same issue.

Buffalo Bill Historical Center
Thadd recently provided a new feature article for the museum's quaterly magazine publication Points West, which will run in the Winter 2003-2004 edition titled "Pards with Wild Bill and Texas Jack".    In addition, Thadd was invited to help the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, WY expand their exhibit on "Texas Jack" Omohundro.  For more information, click on this link: Click here: Texas Jack Omohundro .

True West Magazine-

Thadd co-edited with Joseph Rosa, a second issue of True West Magazine,  April 2002 edition. The issue prominently focuses on the Frontier Scouts of the old west, and will includes well researched feature stories on Captain Jack Crawford, California Joe Milner, Bill Comstock, Al Sieber, and others. Of course, information of the scouting exploits of Wild Bill Hickok and Buffalo Bill Cody are also included in this special edition.

Thadd Turner co-edited with Joseph G. Rosa, a special Wild Bill Hickok collector's edition of True West Magazine for the August-September 2001 issue. 2001 was the 125th anniversary of the shooting and death of Wild Bill, and the special issue features a story written by Thadd detailing the actual shooting of Hickok in the No. 10 Saloon in Deadwood City on August 2, 1876. A second feature piece on how Thadd uncovered the true name of the actual theater used for the Deadwood City trial of Jack McCall, including finding the actual physical site location of the theater business operation on Deadwood's early Main Street, also appears. All material for this story was found while researching the Deadwood Public Library historic newspaper archives. History has revealed some startling coincidence of fact!

The True West Magazine issue also includes a very candid and straight up interview with Joseph G. Rosa written by Thadd. Rosa is recognized as the world's leading authority on Wild Bill Hickok, and contributes some new and exciting feature stories about Wild Bill to this special collector's edition, which also includes a book review for both authors' new Hickok books. Joseph Rosa's new book is titled, "Wild Bill Hickok: Gunfighter", and details all of Wild Bill's known gunfights, including diagrams of the shootings, and information on the gun rigs, and types of weapons used by the participants. Wild West Magazine-

A new feature piece written by Thadd about Texas Jack Omohundro appeared in the October issue of Wild West Magazine. The story appears in the 'Westerners' section of the magazine, and details the life events of one of the greatest and most popular civilian frontier scouts who ever rode with the U. S. Cavalry. Texas Jack lived a life as adventurous and exciting as Wild Bill Hickok's and Buffalo Bill Cody's, whom he was very good friends with. Jack was as well known and popular as the other two scouts in the 1870's, but may have lost his chance for lasting fame when he died unexpectantly from pneumonia in 1880 at the age of 33 in Leadville, Colorado. You can reach Wild West Magazine at: mailto:wildwest@thehistorynet.

Some of the research for this article was generously provided by Edna Nees of the Texas Jack Association, who is the widow of Omohundro's grandnephew, John Sharon Nees. John was the grandson of Texas Jack's sister Arabella. Other members of the association who have been most helpful in providing research material and photographs, include Dennis and Julie Green, who have the single largest collection of Texas Jack memorabilia accumulated in the world; Martha Sullivan, daughter of Texas Jack Association founder attorney Frank Sullivan; and Rick, Terry, and John Omohundro. The Texas Jack Association can be reached at : mailto:info@texas-jack.org

Deadwood Magazine-

Thadd wrote a short historical fiction piece for Deadwood Magazine, which appeared in their August 2001 issue. The story is based on factual information obtained from eyewitness accounts about Wild Bill and Jack McCall actually playing cards together the night before McCall shot and killed Wild Bill on August 2, 1876. McCall, a 25 year old miner, was using an alias by the name of Bill Sutherland at the time he shot and killed Wild Bill. Contact their web site: www.deadwoodmagazine.com
